Seoul, Korea, November 3, 2014—SK Planet announced that the company today held its global tech conference Tech Planet 2014 under the theme of “Technologies Changing the World” at COEX Convention and Exhibition Center located in Samsung-dong, Seoul. The attendees of this year’s Tech Planet enjoyed an opportunity to learn about the latest technologies adopted by mobile commerce platforms and explore what the present and future outlook for O2O (Online to Offline) commerce would be.
Jeon Yun-ho, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of SK Planet took the podium as the opening keynote speaker. In his presentation titled ‘Technology Perspective on O2O Commerce’, he discussed the key trends in the global commerce market as well as the future outlook for the O2O commerce from a technology-oriented perspective.
In his keynote Jeon Yun-ho said, “We’re witnessing exciting developments in the IT industry. The hardware that acts like software is being combined with software and is driving market innovation. The emergence of this new medium at the blurred line between online and offline worlds will act as a catalyst for the development of innovative services.”
He emphasized that “The emergence of new technologies and devices compels us to develop new standards.” Jeon also added that “Against this backdrop, this year’s Tech Planet will allow us to explore how mobile technology is shaping the commerce industry and share experiences in the areas of information processing and technology application.”
The stellar lineup of keynote speakers for this year’s Tech Planet included Jeon Yun-ho, CTO of SK Planet, Cyriac Roeding, CEO of Shopkick, a leader in the U.S. O2O (Online to offline) commerce market, and James Chen, Vice Executive Director of Rakuten, world’s fourth largest e-commerce company in terms of sales. The industry leaders from Korea, U.S, and Japan shared their experiences, observations and insights into operating mobile, online, and offline commerce platforms and discussed the present and future outlook for O2O commerce and omni-channel services.
In addition, the tech conference featured 18 sessions across three tracks, covering commerce, platform, and emerging technology. Moreover, global mobile commerce players such as Alibaba, Google, Facebook, Foursquare, Shopify, and Etsy participated in the event to discuss a wide spectrum of topics such as online and offline commerce, big data, media, user experience (UX), Internet of Things (IoT), wearable, and deep learning.
