Seoul, Korea, August 13, 2015 – SK Planet (CEO Jinwoo So, www.skplanet.com) announced that its internally developed
biometric authentication solution has earned certification from the FIDO® (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance after passing
the organization’s FIDO 1.0 standard certification testing.
The FIDO Alliance is the only global consortium committed to developing standards for universal strong authentication.
 
The FIDO Alliance officially launched in 2013 with six companies, including Infineon and PayPal,
to address the lack of interoperability among strong authentication technologies,
and remedy the problems users face with creating and remembering multiple usernames and passwords.
Today, the alliance comprises more than 200 organizations worldwide,
and FIDO standards improve the user experience with online authentication technologies that are easier to use,
private and better at securing personal information than passwords.
The FIDO Alliance grants FIDO certification to companies that pass interoperability tests and conform to FIDO standards.
 
SK Planet has obtained the FIDO certification for its successful development of biometric authentication technologies
including the information storage technology and communication technology.
Earning FIDO certification means that SK Planet’s biometric authentication solution,
which uses biometric information including fingerprints, iris, voice and face, is in compliance with FIDO 1.0 specifications.
 
SK Planet’s biometric authentication solution will enable users to authenticate themselves conveniently using
a single biometric when they make a payment via PC web, smartphone, or offline channel. At the same time,
FIDO authentication ensures higher security in personal information management with
FIDO Certified™ technology that never stores users’ biometric information.
This can eliminate the risk of personal information being forged, copied, stolen or lost.
 
SK Planet plans to deploy its FIDO Certified fingerprint authentication solution first in Syrup Pay and 11st this year,
and eventually in other services that require user authentication. It also aims to partner with other companies that want to
extend biometric authentication solutions to IoT and O2O services.
